CALL FOR APPLICATION IN UR-SSS INFECTION CONTROL TRAINING AND SURGICAL MATERIALS WORKSHOP

The UNIVERSITY OF RWANDA SURGICAL STUDENTS' SOCIETY Through the directory of surgical skills, education and research, is pleased to announce that it is preparing a surgical workshop (Infections control and surgical materials demonstration) which is schedulled on this saturday 21st may 2016 from 13hoo-16h30, and  will take place in the southern province(UR HUYE CAMPUS(AUDI MEDICINE). 
This came up after realizing that  medical students in lower classes  who are starting clinical practices especial those who are in DOC I and PCL2 are lacking knowledge about infection controls, because they are new in clinical practice. They have low experiences of some infection controls technique like: hand washing, wearing gowns and gloves in sterile manner. On this issues if nothing done will result in increase of surgical sites infections or other transmission of infections in hospitals .

Other issue is that students attend and assist surgical procedures  but some of them don’t know names of some materials used in surgical procedures.

We think this workshop will help as we will be with 4 surgeons from Butare university teaching hospital(CHUB), including senior consultants and senior residents in surgery. Where they will tell us more about:

1. Infections controls in surgical procedure

•   Basic skills in infection control

•   Scrubbing techniques

•   Gowning techniques

•   Gloving technique (sterile gloves)

 2.  Surgical materials skills workshop
